This. The long commute will be hard on everyone and preclude you doing anything else. Might not seem like a big deal when your child is 3, but with a 5yo you might want to do something more structured in the evenings like reading practice or giving your child a household responsibility or whatever. A long commute will make that super hard.

We’d be in the absolutely no camp if in your shoes. Soul sucking commute. Hiring a babysitter saves you some inconvenience and gets you to work on time but subjects your 3yo to an hour or more commute a day. No thanks. If your kid is okay where they are, sit tight and hope for better in the K and 1st lotteries.

Why is it a no go after PK4? What did you see at the school when you toured that you didn’t like?

Do it if you can hire a sitter to pick up.

The fact that your commute to work is so short makes it doable.

I would only do it if you really, really want French. Or if it's Spanish and you would have some hope of moving to a Spanish school closer to home.

We live in Bloomingdale and got in but decided to stick with our IB. There is no DCI guarantee anymore, so that was a big factor.

If you find neighbors to carpool with, I think it can be worth it.

Is your IB really not an option? If you didn't get in anywhere next year what would you do? Why not do it now?

Happy Thursday everyone! My DD just got off the waitlist for PK4 at Stokes East End. Is it worth the commute? We live in Petworth and work in NOMA. So, 30 minutes to drop DD off and 20 minutes to get to work from Stokes. What you do this? Is it worth it? Our only other option is Appletree for another year and to play the lottery again.
