Quick update for posterity- my OB didn't seem concerned by the irregular yolk sac. Said he's sees several a year.

I'm not out of the woods yet because I measured a bit behind, but hoping for good news in the next couple weeks.

With a strong heart beat at 7w3d I think you will be just fine. The chances of miscarriage at this point are very low

How many weeks are you OP? I remember with my second I had an irregular placenta and yolk sack i also had some beleding around 6 weeks, contractions the whole pregnancy, weird pains, ended up doing anamnio because the genetic tests were not great, etc. Baby was born at 39.3 weeks with a planned C section (my first was also C section) and was peefect.

Thank you for the replies. There was a strong heartbeat, although the dates were a little behind what I was expecting. Overall, the radiologist was positive and said everything looked good but recommended a follow up in a few weeks. I lost another pregnancy last year, and I only heard red flags (irregular yolk sac, small subchorionic bleed, tilted uterus/hard to see the fetus, almost a week behind). I’m familiar with the rest but never heard of an irregular yolk sac. I’m on vacation for the 4th and have a follow up with my OB next week. I figured I could wait till then for any bad news. Will update if my OB has any thoughts.

A study that was done showed that the miscarriage rate in pregnancies that showed an irregular yolk sac was identical to those that didn’t. It occurs in about 17% od all pregnancies. In the absence of any other indicators, it’s likely meaningless. So don’t worry about it.

I think irregular yolk sacs are sometimes associated with chromosomal problems with the embryo. But not always. And I had 4 miscarriages caused by chromosomal problems and the yolk sacs looked perfect with all of them.

Did they hear a strong heartbeat? How far along are you?

You should definitely speak to your OB about any concerns/questions. I don't think it increases your chances of having a miscarriage, though. I've never had that in any of my pregnancies, so I don't have any personal experience to share, sorry.

At my first ultrasound, the radiologist said I have an irregular shape yolk sac and that he is not sure what the significance of that is. Has anyone else heard this? I haven’t found too much about it and haven’t had a chance to speak with my OB yet.
