Happens in the AA community pretty consistently. Most of my friends are better educated than their husbands and outearn them (at least the first DH). And no, they aren’t marrying high school drop outs with criminal records. Just regular working class guys. Sometimes former military.

It can create an interesting dynamic in our social circle. These wives are more deferential in public than I’d expect because they don’t want to emasculate their DH. However, there is a lot less infidelity —maybe because the wives know every cent and where it goes.

Know several men in DC who left their college or live in gf to marry an older well established high earning women. The women get the younger husbands while the guys can pursue their hobbies and still live an upper class lifestyle.

I actually did date a sweet illegal/undocumented immigrant but didn't marry her though

I went on a date with a girl whose father might have been a billionaire. I was curious about her world but wouldn't have really considered marrying her since being cute and fun is more important than being rich

Money wasn't a factor when I married my DW. Her family didn't have any money that I knew of or even considered. Maybe I was dumb or just incredibly grateful that she was fond of me. My guess is that most of the guys that fall into money were just lucky. Marrying just for money doesn't usually work out.

I love my wife, and would have married her regardless, but certainly appreciate the fact that her father is paying for our children’s college.

I dated a guy a couple of years off and on. I come from a middle class family, our assests are properties and other investments.

The guy I dated ended up marrying, a woman from a background of well-known family wealth.

So does financial status matter? Or could someone marry you for you?
