I had no clue what DD was doing and, of course, there's no textbook so I have no clue how they're teaching the kids.
So annoyed.

+1 My son learned tons of ways to divide but none of them very well. Now he is in a private middle school and is in math tutoring to teach him how to do it among other things he didn't learn. Ridiculous.

wow, I would never send my child to a preschool that has them sit and do math. Yikes.

NP. Yes, Montessori schools start teaching math and reading at a young age. Our daycare in DC does the same. If your 5-6 yo isn't being exposed to math, and reading (ex. site-words etc) they are more the exception than the norm in our experience.

Fcps doesnt teach long division like we learned it. My kid was doing all this writing in the margins and didn't understand "carrying down" the next digit, etc.

Usually 4th. A lot of kids still need to work on it in 5th, though, especially when they have higher didget numbers & some kids who are more advanced in math during their elementary school years will learn a year or so earlier. Often even smart kids who will have an aptitude for math in the future need the brain development that comes with being around 9 or 10 or so for it to really click, however.

That’s different. Like saying a 5yo is doing algebra because he can solve “what plus 4 equals 20”.

Also that’s not long division.

It’s first half of fourth grade per common core.

For me, it was third. I'm still in touch with the teacher who taught me.
