I feel like the way my base school does things feeds my neurotic tendencies, though, lol. With DC1, I didn't do anything about AAP in any grade (K-2). The true story is that I received DC1's COGAT scores in the weekly take home folder, a few days before the Friday deadline to submit any supplemental information for the packets. Packets were due that Friday, and I did not receive the in-pool letter until that Saturday, the day after the packets were due. As a result, I tried to use google to find out what the in-pool score was, and that is how I found DCUM and this board. I was able to glean online that DC1 had an in-pool score prior to receiving the letter, and I did fill out the optional parental questionnaire in time for the Friday deadline.

OP, I disagree with your premise that because your older kid was found eligible for Level IV, he should have been identified for Level II services starting in K. Kids mature at different rates. I know kids who were just accepted to AAP for next year who were not even reading confidently at the end of K. Why would that kid get differentiated services in reading? See what I mean?

DC1 is in Level IV AAP, and prior to Level IV admission was not identified for Level II at our base school. I feel like DC1 probably should have been identified for Level II and now I want to know if the same thing is happening to DC2 and whether I should do anything about it.

I feel like the AART doesn't work over the summer. Do you think I should email the principal and ask if kids were identified and if letters are going out or how parents are informed? I try to lay low and not contact the principal / AART / or teachers about things generally. LOL

Basically I just want to know - was DC2 identified or not, or is no one informed about identification until some later date?

Yes, it's perfectly fine to email.
Don't worry about laying low. If you want the information, ask. If it's not being communicated widely and publicly there is no other way for you to know.

I don't think it's at all weird to talk to friends about school stuff. Thanks to talking with neighbors and friends, I know that Level IV AAP isn't even remotely close to being as selective as dcum seems to think it is. I understand being worried that your kid wasn't identified. I just don't think there's any way to bring it up to the school without looking crazy. If your kid is well above grade level, but wasn't identified, I would wonder what your school's criteria are.

^^ i know people think it is weird to talk to friends about this stuff. I’m selective about who I talk to about this, but I have been helping friends with what I now know about Level IV etc., so these are all people who I’ve helped with that since I have a kid in it. And we all know we get NO information from our school about anything which is why we informally talk to each other to figure out what is going on.

OP here. I am sure that my school does NO meaningful level II services. BUT they do identify kids and it does go in the Level IV application packet. I would have liked some kind of information that you got there with the letter home, etc., LOL.

A few years ago, after DC1 finished K, another friend told me that she got a letter sent home from our school saying her kid, who also had just finished K, was identified for Level II. I did just ask another friend who has a kid who just finished 2nd grade at our base school (and will attend Level IV in the fall) if her kid was identified for Level II after K and she said she recalls no letter and that she believes it just started showing up on the report card at some point. Yet another friend who also has a kid who just finished K hadn’t received any letter prior to the last day of school this year. I just asked her if she’s gotten anything since then. I guess if she’s gotten nothing by now either or confirms that she has gotten something - I’ll drop it for the summer.

I get that they are only in K but FCPS does identify kids for Level II after K so this is why I am thinking about it.

To the OP: Why are you so sure your kids should have been identified for Level II? It's possible that your school just isn't identifying kids or doing anything for Level II. It's also possible that there are criteria for identification, and your kids just didn't qualify. I understand your desire to know what's happening, but I don't think there's any way for you to ask the principal or AART without looking kind of crazy.

Same here. No letter, but Level II showed up on the report cards in first and second grade. I wouldn't say that it wasn't meaningful, though. Level II for reading meant that the child was in an above grade level reading group using above grade level materials. Level II in math meant that the child was grouped into an advanced math class that covered the topics faster and in more depth.

Oh my. Calm down. Wwhy would they even send you anything when school is out? They might send home a letter during the school year if your kid gets pull outs. But even if s/he doesn't, the child can still into asp. And really, aap is not the be all fix for your child's future. Your kid is in kinder. It's a long time until college acceptance time.
