I chronically get overcharged for blow outs. They always say it’s because my hair is “so thick.” It’s an average thickness but I guess they think packaging it as a compliment will make me complacent. I cut the overcharge from the tip.

I did not ask for a special shampoo and I did not ask her to style my hair. She did NOT use a flat iron and I have a short bob cut. I also live in FL. Blowouts are not $46 where I live. The blowout was also crap. My hair is super straight. I asked her to curve my hair inward. Anyway she brought down to $30 as a special one time thing. I was also supposed to received 25% off because it was my first time using this salon. I decided not to tip. For a few more dollars I could have had my hair highlighted and blown out. It's absurd to pay this amount for a simple blow out on short hair.

You can get highlights in Florida for a little more than $46.00?!?

Partial for $75.

That would cost $200 in D.C. OP - stop complaining. Now.

A $50 blowout in Florida is absurd. Op didn't even go to a blowout bar. I would be pissed too.

Like others, I vote with my feet when this happens.

Yes, I had the same experience years ago at Ulta, but for a dye-job, so much more expensive. Never went back.

I’ve had the opposite experience. I have super thick, kinky AA hair. A blowout takes forever on my hair. It requires a heck of a drive, but I usually go to small natural hair salons. They charge me half what white owner operated small salons or corporate ones like Ulta with AA stylists do and often throw in a trim or treatment. I tip very well as a result.

This happens all the time. The “and up” part really gets me. Good for you for speaking up, OP.

There is nothing that gets me as mad as when a salon overcharges. I paid 240.00 for a cut and highlights six years ago. I have no problem when I know UP FRONT what my costs are going to be. A few months ago I was in such desparate need of a trim that I went to my kids salon. It is a real family joint that I would never go to for a good cut. When the owner was done she told me it was 40.00. I nearly fell off the chair. I said "where does it say that a cut is 40.00?" She said, "oh there is a sign somewhere". When I pushed her on it she showed me a sign that said 25.00 and up. I guess I was the & up. She took ten dollars off but I will never go there again.

Good for you OP. More people need to do this when they get overcharged. The stylist should have spoken to you about the add on for a clarifying shampoo. Did the receipt say that she styled your hair too with a flat iron?

I went in for a blowout which was advertised as $25. I let the person know that I did not want a senior stylist when I booked. I get the bill tonight and it was $46.
