We took a cross-country Amtrak trip using a "pass" and stopped at a bunch of places - Aspen, Yellowstone (from Salt Lake), San Francisco, Seattle, and Glacier. Two 1/2 days in Chicago. This took 3 weeks. I would like to do a few more of those with all the long-distance routes.

I want to know more about #4. We've done vineyards as a day trip from SF, but that was before kids.

It's a great list, op!
My two cents (if you have to prioritize or eliminate some):
1. Disneyworld is far better than Disneyland.
2. The San Diego area is more fun for school-aged kids than SF or LA. LA would be more fun for tweens/teens.
3. We love Puerto Rico. I think it's worth adding to your list.
4. We love the Caribbean. A Disney cruise is magical with kids---even if your family doesn't particularly like Disney.
5. Head across the border into Canada. Montreal and Old Quebec are fabulous! Your kids will feel like it's a big trip since they speak French there and QC has a European feel.
6. Hershey and Lancaster are a fun short trip. So is Williamsburg/Busch Gardens.
7. Charleston/Kiawah would be a great two-fer (better than OBX IMHO).

I always see those lists of "100 places to take your kids before they grow up" and it feels too overwhelming. I'm not going to take 100 vacations in the 14 or so years that I have to travel with them!
