If you don’t have a relationship with this 38 yr old mom, why in the world would you “worry for the sake of my own kid as it is likely he will around her/them in the future.” Explain how he would reasonably be around them. They live out west. It makes no sense that you would be worried.

Is her visitation unsupervised? If it is then she must not have done anything too bad. If she was on drugs or abusive it would probably be supervised. Must be something to do with new husband. If mother didn't jeep daughter safe she would certainly get limited access.

Is your son going out for a visit? I think you need to be very clear with whomever he is visiting that your son should not EVER be alone either with the 38 yo mother or her husband, and that your son should have very limited contact (preferably no contact) with them.
It does sound as though something happened. And while it may have been the new husband who did something, I would be very concerned that his wife, the 38 yo, did not prevent it or protect her daughter.

Hi. Not sure if this belongs in Family Relationships or not..so posting to Off Topic...
I am very closely related to a 38-yr old female with whom I do not have much of a relationship. She and the father of her 4yr old never wed and they had an informal arrangement for 50/50ish custody split. Recently the court stripped her of custody and has given her 4 hours of visitation per week during which time her new husband cannot be present. She has follow up court hearings, the next of which is to potentially give her additional visitation but not custody (yet?). I cannot ask questions of what is going on due to family drama. What could she have possibly done to cause the courts to make this decision??? I mean, even Teen Moms have more visitation/custody than this.
Selfishly I am just plain curious but also I wonder for the sake of my own child as it is likely he will be around her/them in the future. Drugs? Alcohol? Neglect? ??
