Treat it like any other day. If you have a conflict, decline. in our family, we don't make a big deal out of Mother's or Father's Day. Card and a small gift before church, and then off about our day. For other people these days involve much more, but that's going to be the case on almost any weekend. Saturdays in June are hard because swim teams are starting but baseball and softball and soccer haven't ended. My guess is the family's own Saturday was too crowded and Sunday worked best.

Don't take it personally, don't get upset. Accept or decline. Enjoy the Sunday regardless.

If you really want to do a family thing, do it on Saturday. You don't have to follow the schedule set forth by Hallmark Greeting Cards.

Not my husband. He's not into the "Hallmark" aspect, but he wants to spend the day with the kids and likes events planned. We work all week and enjoy seeing them on weekends.

My DH is planning to watch the World Cup so he'd have no problem with this.

Ask your DH what HE wants. Mine would want to do a special activity as a family (hiking, picnic, beach etc). I would have loved some peace and quiet on Mother's Day though!

DH here. I’d say let them go. We can have some time in the morning and eat breakfast. Unless your kids don’t wake up at the crack of dawn. Then birthday parties during which time I’m happy to go for a run or just watch TV. Then out to dinner for burgers or something. Stop making this about us. I really don’t care.
