According to a Q&A with US officials that is not the case. Only once have multiple countries hosted the World Cup (Korea and Japan), and they both got automatic bids. FIFA will in the future determine who gets an automatic bid. With the US hosting 60 games (including quarterfinals on) and Mexico and Canada hosting 10 games each, I would assume the US will automatically qualify. The real question is will Mexico and Canada also get automatic bids. My guess is yes, but that question has not been categorically answered.

Mexico always qualifies. They’re the best team in North America. The US will also likely qualify if it gets its act together the next 8 years. Canada will get the host bid.

Logistics and travel time will be abhorrent. I may be in the minority but I think its a terrible idea to have the tournament across a whole continent. I think the US would have sufficed. In fact, because of the US' great sports infrastructure build out, we could host it every four years!
