Yes, total comp for a 8th year associate is hovering around 500k. When you figure that equity partners are many steps above 8th year associates in the food chain ....

Not all biglaw firms in DC can match this but the very best firms can and will.

I thought the law industry was dying? This contradicts that totally...

I heard vaguely somewhere that the legal industry tends to increase salaries right before a recession and slow down. Don't quote me on this though.

It depends on what you mean by top 15. If you are talking V15, then you are probably looking at at least $700k. If you are talking top 15 in dc, that is a fuzzier definition and might include a number of firms where the number would be quite a bit lower.

It will vary a lot by firm and by what you're referring to as "salary." The top line number will be much more significant than what you bring home each month, and are you counting the deferred comp portion or are you thinking of that as "bonus."

Your best guestimate would be checking the PPP for that specific firm.

I made more than this as a first year partner over a decade ago. You’re too low.

For a 2nd-3rd year partner at a "top 15" firm in DC, I would say total compensation (salary isn't the right term) of $400-800k is probably about the 25-75th percentile. Median is probably on the lower end of that range, perhaps $500k or so.

I work/have worked for many partners in big law. I don’t understand fully how they are paid, there’s some sort of “points” system and “tiers”. I have seen their K1s and can tell you that their income on those vary greatly from each partner to the next-from $350K to $1.5M.

Surprised at only two “guesses” when every other person here claims to be a Big law partner or spouse.

Well, its not a salary if s/he’s an equity partner, but my guess is in the 300k-400k range.

500 to 700 would be a good guess (former partner here)

Anyone know or can share the salary of a big law partner? I know it can be a big range, but wondering about a 2nd or 3rd year equity partner at a top 15 firm in DC.
Thanks
