99.9% of people are going to follow there GPS, it will not change the number of people using 460. Look at the number of morons who back up on the highway to an exit they just passed because GPS doesn’t show them that there is another exit two miles that they could turn around at.

GPS typically puts the two routes within 5-10 minutes of each other, with 64 being faster. But if you have to exit off of 64 it is 10-15 minutes just to get on and off. On 460 you just turn into gas station or fast food place. Traffic is considerably lighter. Yes there are stop lights on 460, but nothing ridiculous.

I posted above response. OP it will only suck if you get to Wright memorial bridge between 1030am and 8 pm.

Leave at 5 and you should be fine.

What town are you going to.

I grew up in Richmond, and my family went to OBX every other summer for vacation. We always took 460. PP at 23:26 is correct that stopping for gas/food is easier/quicker. And, even with improvements along 64, the likelihood of getting caught in traffic is high. That generally isn't an issue along 460. Beware of some of the potential speed traps in small towns down there, though (Waverly, Wakefield in particular).

NP here. Thanks for this info PP. We also have a house there. We’ve discussed trying that route and may try on our next trip. Thanks!
