Only if damage to sidewalk or large cut to tread. OTOH if it’s more than a nail or screw why put anything at risk. BTW I buy from TireRack which includes road hazard insurance. Blew a very expensive Z-rated tire a high speed and quickly received a check for the cost of a new tire after submitting a photo by email and copy of invoice. Also paid for proper patch and plug repairs after nail removal.

So they say.

When I was a kid I don't ever remember getting a flat that couldn't be repaired.

Yet every time we have a flat they just shrug their shoulders and tell us it can't be fixed.

So I'm skeptical.

Sidewall punctures will not be repaired, ever. Only replaced. If the puncture is within an inch of the sidewall, most reputable mechanics won't repair it. Too great a chance of being sued if it blows out.

Buy a new tire and thank a lawyer for it.

Thanks! This is the OP. I must have paid $50 last time and just remembered it wrong.

Anyway, I just paid $44 at a station in NW DC. It was right where I needed to be for an hour appointment anyway, so I’ll consider the upcharge a convenience tax and try to be mostly ok with that.

My mechanic, who otherwise seems to be very expensive, charged $18.

$25-50 at a local station. Car dealer will charge twice that.

I paid $22 at NTB and my local gas station charges even less. $75 is VERY expensive for a simple plug.

Quick question: how much did you pay the last time you asked a mechanic to take a screw out of your tire and patch the hole? I think I paid $75 about 5 years ago, but I am wondering about the current range of prices.

Thanks!!
