Another vote for Aruba. Teenage DD broke into a high fever and painful sore throat while we were there, so we took her to Urgent Care, where she tested positive for strep throat. It was by far the nicest Urgent Care I’ve ever been into. It felt almost luxurious and nicer than any in the States. No wait and incredible staff. The pharmacy we were sent to was convenient and easy. We didn’t go to the hospital, but we passed by it. It was big, and we heard good things about it.

Anyone in the Caribbean with any kind of resources goes to Miami. If the leader or ruling class of any of the islands listed above had a serious ailment they would be on the next plane to MIA.

if your concern is related to something serious or specific which might require an ICU stay, just stay in Miami or Naples. Or make sure you get insurance which includes air lift back to a Florida.

Sadly, with PR still far, far from real recovery after Hurricane Maria, I would not choose it as a place that has reliable medical care. I would go on vacation there myself -- and they need the business -- but I would not go there with someone who needed assurance of a strong and reliable medical infrastructure. I hate to have to write that.

Grenada has a medical school where lots of Americans train. I would expect good care there.

Really depends on level of medical care needed. A competent doctor is one thing, a pediatric ICU is another.

Turks and Caicos. I got fairly sick there and had a better urgent care situation than I would have in the U.S. and much cheaper!

Aruba, then Grand Cayman, IMO. I have been to Aruba several times--it has legitimate infrastructure. I have a close friend whose child suffers from a medical condition and whose doctor recommended Aruba as having good healthcare, so far as Caribbean islands go.

Bahamas

We are trying to plan a beach vacation for spring 2019. We would need to be in a place with reliable medical care. I heard that places like Jamaica and Barbados do not have strong medical infrastructure. Please recommend a nice island with strong hospitals. Thanks.
