You are young, so go for it. Is the salary growth potential higher in the new job? That's also a factor.

Not sure you could afford 4 BRs out that way, but I would make the move. Bay Area is much nicer than DC in my opinion.

OP here. DINK, but kids might come soon. Job would be in Cupertino. If it makes a difference, we currently both work from home (in our late 20s).

It's doable in the East Bay. In Pleasant Hill, the prices are a bit more reasonable, but still higher than you would pay in Silver Spring. Four bedrooms would be high 700s to 900s. But property taxes will be higher. 50k more still won't go that far.

Where in the Bay Area. Definitely not if the job is in SF, the Peninsula, or the South Bay. Maybe if it's East Bay, but only if you really, really want to try living out there. Housing prices have gone nuts out there.

Wife just got an offer with a tech company that pays 50k more, bumping us from 190k to 240k. Currently we live in close-in SS. Is this pay bump enough to live comfortably in the Bay area? We just bought a 4bd house that we like, and if we do move I am aware we would need to downsize dramatically.
