The list shows 3 kids going to CalTech

Don't know, but those numbers for MIT are ridiculously impressive.

I also think it makes sense that UMD-CP gets so much of the class. It's a great school and has strong STEM departments, which I'm sure these kids are interested in.

Does anyone know what SMAC kids end of studying in college? Is it a certain percentage engineering, a certain percentage computer science, a certain percentage physics, etc.?

A lot of donut hole families.

Many of those kids got huge merit scholarships. They do every year.

What is a donut hole family?

Make too much for FA but not enough to pay full price or have multiple kids

They really are. They're putting their money where their mouth is. They got sick of losing all the most talented kids to UVA and UNC. This happened to coincide with everybody realizing that an undergraduate degree is way overvalued. The school is doing a great job at locking down a huge proportion of the highly qualified seniors in Montgomery County, Howard County, and Baltimore County.

UMCP's ranking and reputation is skyrocketing. Objectively by acceptance rate, it is as competitive out-of-state as UVA, Michigan, and Berkeley. In-state it isn't all that much easier to get in. It's a bargain for in-state tuition.
