What is K like at Langley? I see 18 spots are open.

Both the Prinicpal and AP have done a great job. Agree, it’s not anyone’s top choice but it’s a gem for ECE and attracting more people from IB and OBB. I think people leave when they get into one of the many nearby charters and that makes retention tough. Good luck getting off the waitlist OP.

Hype --promote or publicize (a product or idea) intensively, often exaggerating its importance or benefits.

The Langley boosters exaggerate such that a young parent, like OP, may assume it is more sought after than it actually is and thus be confused as to why so many other parents are choosing other schools. That was OPs question, right? I have nothing against Langley and as a neighborhood family, would love to see it succeed. But the exaggeration and aggressive pressure of the Langley boosters has been notable.

NP. I don't know who's exaggerating or pressuring anyone. I certainly don't mean to make anyone uncomfortable. But it is our neighborhood school and I don't apologize for putting in an effort. I want it to work out for my kid and all of the kids who go there now and in the future, and I like to think other parents understand that it benefits the whole neighborhood, and have some sympathy for our lack of lottery luck. In my shoes they would likely be doing exactly what we are.

Also no concerns with the neighborhood- it’s not Georgetown pristine but safe as any of the other similar schools EOTZp

It's on the wrong side of North Capitol. If it were only a few blocks west into Bloomingdale/LeDroit/Shaw it would be the new darling.

The neighborhood is a little iffy but gentrifying rapidly. I have lived nearby to Langley very happily for 7.5 years and can't believe how expensive houses are selling for. Not sure what you mean about drug treatment centers, if you mean the medical marijuania place on North Capitol that's actually quite far from Langley.

McKinley Tech is a test-in magnet high school so I don't see a lot of behavior problems from the high school kids. The middle school kids sometimes get rowdy at 3:15, but if you use aftercare, you will very rarely see them. The principal or AP greet all the students at arrival so it's well-supervised. If you have a 2-year-old it can be an adjustment being around bigger kids, and I do see some friendly wrassling among the boys, but it's certainly no worse than my own nephews. I have literally never seen a big kid at Langley raise a hand against a younger one-- I can only hope they enjoy my DC's company as much as DC enjoys theirs.

It is a school with a growing reputation, so a lot of people list it but it isnt their first choice. My DCs will be attending for PK3 and K. DC5 had an excellent preschool experience. I like the teachers and I really like the Conscious Discipline program. It wasn't our first choice eithet, but I have turned down several other offers because things at Langley are going well. Hope you get in, PP!

Probably not enough white kids. That's the only reason why.

Any Langley parents here? Our PreK3 WL# is moving pretty swiftly...curious why so many appear to be turning the school down.
