I like teaching hospitals and am comfortable with residents taking part in my care - if that’s not you, don’t do GW. I wanted a place where my husband could run out and get me non hospital food - a good thing as I was there for 6 days - but that may be less important to you. GW is known for being very natural-birth-friendly across the board, but I know many other practices are as well. Sibley is known for being higher end (I have heard rumors of a smoothie cart in postpartum??) so that’s nice. We are honestly so lucky to be in a city with such fantastic medical facilities.

My preference was the solo practitioner; the midwife practice is just way too big for what I am looking for. Having said that, GW is right in downtown, and the doctors and nurses are also supportive of natural childbirth for low-risk women. So, it's a good option.

People will tell you that the hospital is very pro section and epidural but that wasn’t my experience at all. I never felt pressured to get an epidural, but then I’m not the sort of person who interprets being asked about epidurals as pressure to get one.
