This is OP. Thanks for the feedback. Anyone else with any info on Burke? We toured and were very impressed. They have a new Aspire program that is only for kids on the spectrum or with the aspects as kids on the spectrum versus ED.

Every kid there has an IEP. I have personally sent many GT kids there who had behavioral issues that meant a gen ed setting would not work. The staff is highly skilled at programming for kids. Unfortunately, in the county they lump HFS with ED. As an ED teacher, I don’t think it’s appropriate, but that’s the reality.,

I was told in an IEP meeting that only some of the children there have IEPs. The rest of the students had to leave their assigned schools for disciplinary reasons. I was also told that most of the students were not on grade level, after a lot of dodging the question, “we differentiate for every child” crapola.

I have a child with HFA who does not do well with the kind of points/earning privileges systems that are popular in that environment.

I would go tour it and see for yourself.

I've worked there in the past. It's a very supportive, structured environment. There are also students there with severe emotional disabilities and behaviors that match. You should go tour the school.

Does anyone have experience with this school for a child with HFA and school refusal/noncompliant behavior? This is not Edmund Burke or the Burke, VA neighborhood schools. I am referring to the self contained center school.
