Why do you need a nickname?

I spent my entire adult life trying to escape my nickname. Better to have no childish nickname from the start.

Beautiful name. Doesn't need a nickname but Beth or Abby or Tee would all work.

We really like the name Tabitha for a baby girl, but dislike the nickname Tabby. Any suggestions for other Tabitha nicknames or even names similar sounding to Tabitha with better nickname options? Common last name similar to Jones or Smith.
