And this surprised you?

When my kid was U9, I saw this was happening frequently in age groups above us and any prospectives get a chance on A team tryout field. No kids from lower teams allowed on there. I guess kids don’t change or develop after 8 years old, right?

Anyways, I saw enough to know it wasn’t the place for us. A lot of parents have blinders in or think it would never happen to their kid. They find out the hard way with no backup plan.

It’s a sport. Just because you practice for years and are better vs a lot of people who have not had the training does not mean you are guaranteed anything. You have to remember some of the kids coming from other clubs are the top or within the top 3 or 4 players on that team. Tryouts are tough. Lots of time teammatew will not pass to the new kid.

C'mon, you don't honestly believe that tryouts for the big clubs are anything other than charades do you?
The only point to tryouts is to see if any hidden gems turn up.
Coaches know exactly where the returning players will most likely go before tryouts ever begin.
They see the kids all year...how could a few hours of try-outs possibly trump that?
Your kid wasn't bumped because he didn't do as well in tryouts as the other kids. He was bumped because your coach, that knew your kid well, decided he wasn't as good as the incoming kids.

Agreed except in some cases, the returning players are bumped for a kid with a mediocre display at tryouts. I get it if they're bumped for a kid who tries out exceptionally well. Some clubs will bump their own for anything new that walks through the door.

In those cases, I would think there are other reasons they wanted to bump your kid. There's a lot more to it than a kid's skill/abilities. Attitude, work effort, commitment, sportsmanship, family commitment... all of that is taken into consideration when you are evaluating giving offers.

I don't think we have to throw shade at parents for "no backup plan" when kids get pushed down or cut. Some kids just love to play, and they love their teams. It is not all about the parents. If a kid who loves to play and has some skills gets cut, there are other teams in the sea.

No guarantee that it will be better at our next closest club, and sounds like that club is having problems holding onto its top kids.

And even if I feel my kid got overlooked due to politics or other suspicious reasons, I have the comfort of knowing I won't have to deal with the screamer parents on the top team.

Individually, they are great people, but in that environment with all of them together, it is nauseating.

I get it, you get excited, soccer is fun to watch, and I played it intramurally in college. But yell at your kid, not mine. We have a professional coach for a reason, let my kid make mistakes and learn from those mistakes.

Because my kid likes it.
All the annoying politics stuff is for the parents. Plus, I'm not obsessed with him being on the top team, but for the parents that are, I think it's fair for there to be a path to the top team through the lower teams.

The commuting convenience trumps my frustration to pick up and move, plus my skilled kid will go to college based on grades, not soccer.

Peace of mind, happiness, nice environment and zero BS trumps knots in the stomach and a back stabbing, toxic, arrogant environment. Commute isn’t bad. There are a million area options.

Is your kid happy? Mine loves soccer again.

Agree. Learned that by year 1 of travel. They don’t give a shit about you or your kid.

I see the same parents year after year bitch and moan and complain. The parents from a Club we left 4 years ago are so disgruntled and upset all of the time yet they keep signing up for more. You know the definition of insanity, right? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

These are the same people that brag about playing for a certain Club-even from the lower teams..and going lower each year.

The hypocrisy is our league offered top spots to several outside players, leaving some great and loyal players on B and C teams.

Very frustrated about the whole situation, what is the story at your club that everyone is talking about?

Same thing at my club. Been adding outside recruits to the team, and it doesn't look like any B players are going to move up.
All about winning and no sense of loyalty. Any big clubs not not like that?
