I have heard other horror stories about Denver turbulence. We’re flying ther for vacation this summer. I hate turbulence and am already concerned!

Worst turbulence period was flying through a storm from DCA to Chicago. Very bumpy and made my normally iron stomach upset.

Worst turbulence “experience”? When 12 month old DD shat all over herself and me when we pushed back from the gate for a 7 hour flight. We had light turbulence for the first 40+ minutes of the flight so we were required to remain seated. She and I spent about an hour covered in her poo until the turbulence cleared. Last time she flew as a lap infant.

Several hard bumps like a car running off the road. I was uninjured, but my seat mate bit her tongue badly. Tongues bleed excessively. She was hysterical with fear and blood was flying everywhere. As soon as the turbulence settled, the attendants and a nurse saw to her. She eventually settled, but cried the rest of the flight. I felt lucky I needed a stiff drink.

Flying back from Europe on Friday the 13th. The turbulence was so bad the oxygen masks fell and we took a nosedive. Then it smoothed out and we got to our destination on time and with no further incident.

If the flight attendants run to their seats take head. I always wear my seatbelt.

The worst I experienced as a flight attendant was when we were traveling to Portland, Maine through a thunderstorm. The storm was getting worse and worse the closer we got. I just remember it being so dark and so rainy and just so rough. It was the one and only time I was a little scared and just wanted them to set the plane down already! We rerouted to Bangor.

I remember people coming together and renting cars and carpooling down to Portland. Usually people are furious when something like this happens, but I think everyone was just happy to have two feet back on the ground.

I was on a flight coming home from Johannesburg and we hit awful turbulence as we approached the mainland US. It was the worst I’ve ever experienced, and the breakfast couldn’t be served. We were fine! Landed at Dulles a tad early.

Frequent flyer here. I keep my seatbelt on at all times for this reason.

My aunt was caught in an air pocket, and the plane plummeted down hundreds of feet, but then righted itself. No one was hurt. The ones most at risk are the ones not wearing their seatbelts (infants in arms and flight attendants).

Imagine you’re on a train. It feels like a far less alarming amount of bumping around with that frame.

Also what PP said—it’s not at all dangerous for the plane, just unpleasant for you.

My brother is an aerospace engineer and he has explained to me that planes are meant to go through turbulence. Turbulence to a plane is like driving down a bumpy road to a car. Planes can withstand an enormous amount of turbulence! So hang in there-- you will be okay.
