Sure 0-3m size “fits” but it is baggy and too loose in the snaps, meaning we are constantly adjusting from giving her wedgies, or her shoulders are escaping out the top. This is especially awkward for new grandparents to manage, right at the height of photo taking, meaning baby looks like she is constantly falling out of her clothes in snap shots. She’s two weeks old now, and I haven’t been well enough to run out to target to buy newborn sized clothes. Can you tell this irks me

Anyway, size 1 diapers are fine, but again, have lots of extra room and look overly puffy. We bought a a pack of newborn buggies and they fit so much better. The benefit of the size 1 is that it helps her stay in the too big clothes!

Really?

My 9 lb 9 oz baby did not fit in newborn diapers at birth!

Seriously, when they were cleaning him up and weighing him after he was born the newborn diaper was too tiny so they had to use size 1! I had a couple newborn outfits that I didn’t even bother to try on. We went straight to 0-3 month onesies and they fit snuggly. He was in 3-6 month clothes at 1 month though, and he continued growing fast the whole first year.

So, yeah it depends a lot.

You will quickly discover that there is not some universal sizing machine that spits out identical newborn sized clothing. Some brands run large. Some run small. For some "cuts" (onesies) it doesn't really matter that much anyway. I had some newborn stuff (I didn't purchase any except the "going home" outfit, but it appears anyway) and my 9lb baby wore it for a little while. He would be swimming in some 0-3 stuff, and other 0-3 stuff he outgrew almost immediately.

My 8, 2 pound baby wore newborn for about three weeks.

Our 9 lb newborn wore newborn clothed for 6ish weeks. She was long but "thin" (if that's the right word to use)

Also look at length and whether baby is muscular/solid or fat/fluffy. Both mine were under 7. One was short and all muscle. She fit NB clothing for a month. The taller and fluffier one went straight into 0-3. By 2 mos, she was in 3-6 mos.

My 8lb 11oz baby wore newborn stuff for a few weeks, maybe the first month

I’ve had two 8.25# babies and both wore NB clothing and diapers for the first month or so. The 0-3 stuff was really more 3 months than 0 months. YMMV, of course, but for example the Target Cloud Island sleepers in 0-3m were too big until my DD (born 8.25#) until she was almost 2 months old.

Yes, very easily, actually. Would be swimming in 3 months clothing, unless 22+ inches long.

My 8.5 lb baby was in newborn clothes for the first month or so. Her hospital outfit was 0-3 month fleece footed PJ (Carters) that she was swimming in. There is so much variation in sizing, even within a single brand sometimes. Gap newborn would definitely fit a 8 lb baby since they run large.

My string bean is probably over 9 lbs by now (been a few weeks since her last weigh in, which was 8 lbs 5 oz) and she’s still in newborn diapers but now fits into 0-3 month clothes

No way!

You might be able to squeeze an 8 pound baby in newborn clothes but why would you want to be squishing their arms and bending them in weird positions just to make a too tiny item of clothing fit? Newborn clothes are meant for preemies.

Just getyour kid clothes that fit. Start at 0-3 month sizes.

Probably a 9lber is in size 1. I had a 6.6lb baby and we wore newborn for a month. She pooped 10x a day, so we were going through 10-12 diapers a day (which is insane because we just finished potty training and my 2 year old went through 5 diapers a day).

I think cutoff was right around 8lbs, so my 8lb 5oz baby started out in 0-3 month clothes and size 1 diapers. My 7lb 12 oz baby was able to wear NB clothes and diapers for about a week.

If not, what size did you buy in diapers and clothing?
