My rule was that my kid couldn't be an IG Ho until she was 18 and out of my house. There's no reason to need to post daily bikini pix when you live in the DMV area. If you live in FL or CA? Maybe.

My rules for daughter's IG:

1- I stay logged into her account on my phone (so i see what she sees- DMs and everything).

2- She can follow major brands but when it comes to individuals- only follow (or accept requests) if you know them (or have met IRL).

Several teachable moments have come up in terms of inappropriate language or risky/dangerous behavior.

DD and I talk about this and sometimes unfollow/block accounts.

SO many predators take advantage of young girls (and boys) on social media. One of DD's friends was sent a d*ck pic last week (she is 14 y/o) by someone she didn't know but was DMing.

I would not be okay with that if it were my dd. If a teen girl has 20k followers, I'm sure she also has older men sending her messages as well. It's opening her up to a disturbing level of potential inappropriateness.

OP, Thanks for posting. I agree this is not your problem, not my problem. But as the mother of a tween, I'm glad that I now know that this is even possible. Yes, I would absolutely care. She’s a minor and has zero idea of the lasting nature of her internet persona.

Yes, I would care. There are a lot of things that my kid’s classmates post that I would have a problem with if I were their parents. I can only assume they don’t look, don’t know, or don’t care. Not my kid. Not my business.

Oh. This is not your daughter. Have your daughter’s privacy settings on.

Basically 3 options:

1) Her parents don't know.
2) Her parents don't care.
3) Her parents know and monitor her social media use but feel that what she's posting and how many followers she has are appropriate.

Either way, you worry about your daughter and your own rules.

Depends. Are they real? What does she post? Does she direct message with them?

As in, far beyond just school friends, people from around the world are following your daughter because she dresses cute, has attractive friends, lots of bikini, vacation and college party photos. A few girls at my daughter's school are this popular and I'm just not sure what their parents are thinking.
