As long as you're not damaging the merchandise in any way (i.e. wearing them outside, etc.) and returning the items in a timely way, Zappos should have NO problem with this.

Easy returns are a huge part of their business model. It's a big reason why I continue to buy from Zappos and Nordstrom.

My DH does this monthly with Zappos, sometimes up to 8 pairs. Work shoes, soccer cleats (indoor, outdoor), for him and our child. This week it's sandals. I also say he is going to singlehandedly make them take back their free return policy. So far so good.

I do this all the time. I buy $500 or more worth of shoes for my kids, keep the pair that fit, and send the rest back. I did it last year with $1100 worth of clothes (bathing suits) for me. They've never blacklisted me. I suspect this is their business model and it works well for them.

Keeping track of the returns is a bit of a pain, but I've never had a problem with the items not making it back.

I think online retailers understand that people need to be able to try stuff on. Zappos sells at full retail cost despite not having to maintain brick-and-mortar stores. Instead of passing that savings off through discounts, instead they offer fast shipping and easy returns. That's their point. That's how they compete with going to the store and trying stuff on.

You're fine.

I definitely do this more than you and not only have they not blacklisted me, we have VIP status...not sure what that is but when I order from my phone app like VIP symbols fall and I get free 1 day shipping. DH has ordered under another log in and waited 5 days.

I have a child with disabilities and finding shoes that fit is a pain. I usually order 8 to 10 pairs at a time and keep 2 if we're lucky. Usually I return it all promptly but a few times I have waited until the year was almost up. Never had an issue.

What is tricky is the credit card. I guess they haven't figured out yet that I sometimes charge $800 worth of shoes and they think fraud is happening. I just make sure I use the card that texts me if they suspect fraud so I can confirm the transaction quickly.

His fears are probably unwarranted. Such a large business would first strike out customers who cheat by wearing the shoes and then returning ALL of them for refund, many months afterward. If you end up keeping some of them, and return clearly unused ones, then it's fine.

I would try to narrow down your choices a little more before you buy. For example, I usually know exactly which color I want for myself and the kids. Children's sizes are always a little tricky, though, and I have bought 2 different sizes for them to try on.

I don't do this with Zappo's, but with some other retailers (Gap/Old Navy, Nordstrom, Amazon, anyone that offers free returns) and I've never had a problem and don't think it's weird. Since I don't typically shop in stores, this is my equivalent of taking things into the fitting room or bringing home a couple of options to decide from.

No. Nordstrom seems to stay in business with this business model.

Are you wearing the shoes or clothes out of the house before returning?

Do the same thing all the time at multiple retailers without any issues!

So every 6 months or so I go on buying sprees at zappos--by 3 different colors of 1 pair of shoes, return 2 of them. By 5 shirts, return 3. Buy the kids 3 pairs of sneakers, they pick which one they want to keep. During these time periods it is not unusual for me to have 3 or 4 boxes to return (since you can't combine your orders to return). I am not spending THAT much money--it is 1-300$ per order, but my husband seems to think that eventually they are going to cut me off! I say, no way because this is their business model. Should I be concerned?
