Not on MCPS 5th grade IEP - should we bring an advocate to the meeting?

Does the IEP say "specific learning disability" and document weaknesses in reading and writing?

Appreciate this community so much.

And per above quote - school was indeed “non specific learning disability “ then we chose to pay for private testing

I'd give them the results then have the meeting without an advocate. If you aren't satisfied with their proposed IEP, then have another meeting including an advocate.

People on this board report that MCPS does not use evidence-based methods for dyslexia, so you should expect you'll need to supplement with private tutoring.

Did the tester provide you with goals? I know it's not the same thing, but when we had a neuropsych done, the neuropsych report included goals for school. I provided the school with the report and the goals were incorporated into the IEP.

However, if you do not know what goals need to be added, an advocate could be very useful in guiding you in the right direction.

Thank you! IEP has nothing specific as far as diagnosis. Recent testing preceded IEP
