I am in need of a new car, not purchasing a new one for this reason.
But I don't want to end up with an issue I have in my husband's car.
Adding another piece to the restraint will not help as I have to make the seat so high so that I can see over the dashboard that the highly angled part of the restraint is hitting my head where it is the largest, not at the curve of my neck, so it is pushing my head forward.
What you’re describing sounds normal. I am 5’6” and have never had a head rest hit the curve of my neck. That would only make whiplash worse.
