I have a friend named Chip. It's not a nickname. Not a name I would choose, but it is one syllabul. I totally forgot about James. And I have a James.


Well it may not be a nn for your friend's son but, it is a nn. My nephew is named Keith but, they call him Chip. Just Chip is awful. Also, cousin is Charles but, they call him Chip.

Usually those are nicknames and people would use Benjamin/Bennett, Zachary, Joseph so not one syllable names.
