My DW has no doubt how much I adore her in multiple ways, and neither do our friends and family.

I agree. Something very sweet about a man being that open about his love for his partner. However my SO isn’t very verbally affectionate and my Love Language is Words of Affection so it’s a sore spot for us lol.

So before social media, all men were inconsiderate jackasses unless they rented billboards, hired sky writers or hung banners on highway overpasses to express their undying love for their spouse. Is that what you’re saying OP? Only outward public pronouncements of love mean that a husband truly loves his wife.

I find public emoting vomit-inducing. In my mind, love and respect are something very private, and talking about it just devalues it.

But I was raised in "stiff upper lip" circles. I have friends who become effusive during dinner toasts and Thanksgiving meals, etc. Makes me cringe every time.
