OP here ... sorry I forgot to clarify we are twins. We have always been this close. We didn't spend our first night apart from each other until we went to separate colleges.

I'm very close to my mom and sister. I speak to each of them once or twice a day.

My mom and her siblings are all very close. They call each other every day.

My DH and his mom speak atleast once a day. They are very close as well.

The only trouble with speaking that often is that we tend to gossip more than I would like to. How may personal updates can one really have in 24 hours?

My mom used to come home from work and immediately get on the phone when I was a kid. I hated it because I hadn’t seen her all day and wanted her attention.

Op here ... we both have many other friends both individually and together. We don’t live in the same town so we have our own social networks from college, work, life.

It's great that you and your sister are so close. Do you have other close friendships? I'm curious if this level intimacy could be an impediment to other close relationships.

Op exactly same situation as you. Very very close. Speak twice a day - we both work - talk at maybe lunchtime and when we get home and making dinner or FaceTime when playing with kids. We message all day long too and see each other every weekend.

Does this seem like a lot? I hang out all day with my sister every Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm or something. I see my parents monthly, all day. I eat dinner with my in-laws 2x a week, and otherwise hang out with them an additional 2x a week.

Of course your husbands support it. They don't want to hear both of you gabbing all day long.

MILs family is like that. One of her brothers actually does live next door to her and she's constantly on the phone with her sisters. DH is the oldest of 15 cousins and they're all very close. We're the only ones who don't live locally to his family and we talk to DH's parents and sisters not daily but multiple times a week. I finally got an iPhone just to join in on DH's cousins' thread since it's hilarious

DH and his sisters are also close and I know that his 2 sisters see each other frequently. DH is sad sometimes to not be living close to his family, but he has no desire to move to where they all are (NY) so we make do with lots of FaceTime and visiting every few months.

My SIL was like this with her family. All lived near each other, worked together, vacationed together, the works.

And then it went bad. And wen something like this goes bad, it goes REALLY bad.

I am very very close with my family, especially my sister. We talk on average 5-10 times a day and see each other about 2 times a month. Thankfully our spouses are very supportive of our relationship and they also get along very great as well. Our kids are like siblings and love each other and play together great. If I could move next door and see my sister every day I would do it in a heart beat.

Surprisingly this doesn't cause any issues with our ILs. Probably because our SIL/BILs are much older than us and are in a different phase of their lives and our MIL/FILs are also a lot older than our parents. Reading DCUM made me realize how rare our relationship was.

I sincerely hope that my kids grow up to have as strong as a bond as my sister and I do and that their relationships stay strong even after they get married and start their own families.
