Einstein IB for kid who likes science and music. Wheaton has stronger engineering but less strong instrumental music, and child doesn't feel like specializing in engineering yet.

Both kids are in the STEM magnet at Blair.

Older child going to CAP/Blair. Younger is still in middle school.

I am a ECC resident with kids in elementary and middle school and we are happily planning to use our inbound high school, or apply to the CAP program at Blair or the VAC program at Einstein. We know lots of kids in the neighborhood who have gone through high school and they have been happy and successful, not to mention leaving for excellent colleges and universities. Finally, for my specific kids, the risks of a DCC School are far less serious than the risks of a so-called W School. My kids are very unlikely to join MS-13 but extremely likely to get caught up in the perfectionism and overall pressure-cooker atmosphere of a school where kids are highly focused on a handful of undergraduate programs.

High schools are actually some of the strengths of the DCC. Really strong options for teens with different interests:

In addition to the vaunted Blair Magnet, there's Wheaton for anything STEM-related with a fantastic principal and dedicated staff; Einstein for the arts, Blair CAP for the writers/journalists, Northwood for the all-around humanities kid who wants to make a sports team. The only school that I would avoid is Kennedy - but even then, there are families who are happy with it.

What are the W's like? Can't say for sure since I'm not there, but they seem to be stress-cookers in general.

We currently live in DCC area and have enjoyed our very diverse elementary school. We rent now and are looking to buy. We immediately compared high schools as much as possible and are attracted to the w schools. If you chose to live in DCC and you considered the high schools, why did you chose this area? Really struggling with our decision, Cost of home vs strong schools.

I know these questions have come up on other threads, I couldn’t find this specifically.
