I'd definitely recommend sending a care package while she's there. Sometimes you don't really know what you need or what you really miss until it's not readily available from Amazon Prime.

Other than that, my friend was sleeping in a hammock in a hut with a dirt floor. Rats were a huge problem. She needed copious amounts of tupperware.

This is probably a great idea. Ziplock bags might also be helpful--to put inside the tupperware.

I also like the suggestion of a travel journal. Recommend a lightweight leatherbound one.

A return ticket! I can almost guarantee you that she'll never fulfill that 2 year contract. Yes it's beautiful but after awhile she'll be tired of how she's treated not to meation being home sick and have island fever. The islands there are very small and unless you grow up there it's not paradise after a short while.

Even most teachers that move to Hawaii come back quickly and Hawaii is much bigger and more like the mainland.

You could get her an air ticket to places she could explore from fiji. Tasmania for instance or new zealand.

If she's very outdoorsy, I'd go with a gropro if she doesn't have one yet.

That is so nice. I might suggest a nice journal for her to record her thoughts the first few months. Something like a good pair of binoculars might also work, or an underwater camera, given the types of activities she might be doing when not teaching.

something like this? https://www.rustico.com/collections/leather-sketch-books/products/chronicle-artist-book

or, less expensive, woolite packets. Those are so great for travel.

My best friend is moving abroad to Fiji for a teacher position. Amazing opportunity to live ina beautiful place. She’s a wonderful friend and has always been there for me. I’d love to get her a very special gift. She is very outdoorsy and not materialistic and also a sentimental person. She is storing his stuff in storage and can’t bring much on her trip. What do I get besides an REI gift card? I’d love to give her something special. Ideas please. Sorry if this is the wrong section. Wasn’t sure where to post.
