This sounds about right. Suburban norm.

Most of the couples I know who have divorced have been in their mid 40's and married 15-20 years. None have really surprised me as I could see that they just weren't connected in so many ways. They seemed happy on their own but at couples events they were different. There are some couples that aren't divorced that I bet would be and then there have been a few surprises. You never know what goes on behind closed doors.

We haven’t had any couple friends split yet.. but I too wonder who it will be. Hard to predict. So many of these decisions are influenced by finances, religion, family, etc. It isn’t just about who seems to have lost their compatibility.

In my group of friends, were early 30s, it seems the wheels have been falling off for some right as the second kid is born...

+1. I’m a nanny, and over my 20+ year commute, I’ve only been wrong with one couple. They initiated divorce but didn’t go thru with it. Every other couple I’ve predicted (mainly people I work for), it’s been spot on.

Together for 20+ years, two kids in elementary school. My spouse and I have been contemplating divorce for the past several months and we literally cannot believe this is happening to us. We never saw it coming until one day when we were finally honest with ourselves. I feel like everyone we know will be shocked if we do. OTOH, we’re related to an elderly couple who everyone predicted would divorce decades ago. They’re the Bickersons, but apparently they’re in it for life. To answer your question, no, I don’t believe you can tell.

Yep. Not always, but there are always the couples that fight constantly and you can't figure out what they're doing together. It's a relief when they call it quits.

This is an interesting topic! We are now in that stage of life where people are having first and second kids. I think in a couple of years the cracks will start and divorces get rolling. I’m always surprised by divorce news though, so I cannot figure out who it’s going to be.

We’re in our late twenties / early thirties and see people pairing up. I sometimes wonder which one of us will divorce in the future given the high divorce rates. Everyone seems loved up and happy so I don’t really foreve any splits.
