OP - look at the LRES PTA facebook page. there was a conversation about this between some parents about a year ago. you should be able to search the page.

I don't recall tons of homework at white oaks AAP. We've been out for two years, but homework wasn't noticibly different from our other kid that stayed at base school. White oaks building was craptastic, but is being renovated. The AAP teachers were really good, except for one typically at each grade level. D.C. Really liked the school and was glad that they switched. Aced algebra 1 h in 7th and is doing great across the board at Robo. Great field trips comparatively to base school.

Can you speak more about this? Following

I completely agree. My DD was identified for AAP, we toured White Oaks, and I have to say I was completely underwhelmed. We LOVE Laurel Ridge. It has been such a fantastic school and between the amazing teachers, low key but good admins and strong parent community, I am seriously concerned about moving to White Oaks. I heard homework horror stories (we have zilch now beyond reading) and tons of projects (also none now). If AAP means more busy work, I don't think it's worth it.

I have friends in a different AAP center and they don't report the endless projects and busy work. It's like the opposite at White Oaks for some reason.

I asked about advanced math and it sounds like they are willing to do a section of accelerated math if enough people stick around. We may do this.

DC went to White Oaks for AAP and then to Robo. Loved White Oaks. Teachers were great. Is still really great friends with buddies that went onto LB.

White Oaks don’t have language immersion, you have to consider about it

I did not send my daughter to White Oaks. She was not a math kid. She was perfectly well challenged at LRES and had she been great at math, could have taken the advanced math classes. I know several families who tried White Oaks and returned to LR due to so much homework and not innovative teaching, but you never know what teacher will be where. Unless your child is really bored at LR, I'd leave her with her friends and familiar environment. I really think only the kids with very high scores should go to White Oaks, like 140s.

Post your question on fb school group. You are likely to find parents who sent kids to White Oaks. We are in immersion and even then many parents chose White Oaks.

This should be in the AAP forum.

And also, did you go to the orientation?

Thoughts on one school vs the other? She’d return to Robinson for 7th grade.
