Subject: What do you expect from APS staff (option/neighborhood) on 4/30?
so whatever will be the decision, when do the changes go into effect? for the 2018-19 school year or 2019-2020?

The problem is that the first round of analysis caught the SB off-guard (I suspect because the staff brought in their own agenda that sent the analysis in a different direction than the SB expected), both in its results and in the resulting community outcry. Now they're scrambling to do a more thorough analysis and engagement process without blowing the end-of-calendar-year deadline to have not just the locations but all of the boundaries set before the option lottery process for 2019-20 starts in January. Yes, it would have been handled differently at the outset, but once we were in the middle of it and faced with either having an awkward community engagement process or having virtually no community engagement at all, awkward was preferable to none.

They might send out an email and provide a few ways to give feedback (online form, email, meeting dates coming up). It's not that strange.
I just find it odd that there's no meeting to explain any new document. I don't receive emails--is there a way to sign up for those if you don't have school aged kids? Mine are in preschool.

They might send out an email and provide a few ways to give feedback (online form, email, meeting dates coming up). It's not that strange.

Yes. They will drop the proposal and then there is a community meeting scheduled. They followed the same process for MS boundaries this fall.

I won’t be surprised, but there were multiple schools who scored higher on the criteria than either, including Nottingham. Tuckahoe and Jamestown would have too if they hadn’t been magically re iced from consideration. If suddenly 22205 is on the block, then APas will have totally caved.
Nottingham and McKinley were 1s once the staff corrected their errors. Ashlawn is a 2. Staff has said previously that they're going to bring the corner schools back in, so Tuckahoe and Jamestown are potentially back on the table.

Regardless of what people think should or should not happen, there will be no neighborhood preference. Not for anyone at in any program at any site.
As to whether they should or not, I think if they did what you suggested, what would happen is that the really affluent families who wanted a particular choice school would buy their way in via houses in the designated walk zone, resulting in lower-income families being pushed out even more.

It will not be recommendation, they've been clear about that. I think it will be the same format as last time, but will have a broader list of candidates. I think this will be the case because (1) they are looking at more schools this time around; and (2) they will be including more criteria, which means there's more room for a school to miss a couple of criteria and still look favorable. Nottingham will be off the list, but another school from NW will be on the list. My bet is Tuckahoe or maybe McKinley. It should be Jamestown, but I'm not sure the staff will have the nerve to go there.
