Well, we live in Mexico, so we're not avoiding it, but there are parts of Mexico we won't visit--Ciudad Juarez, parts of Michoacan, Acapulco, etc... I think its important to remember that just because everyone you know (or yourself) went and "it was fine/great/awesome" doesn't reduce your individual risk. Yes, it will probably be fine. But when there are legit warnings against an area I just go to another area. It seems obvious to me but thats just me.

We were just in Mexico for spring break at rosewood mayakoba.
Based on the many American families I saw there, including at least a half a dozen from the DMV area that I met over the course of a week, no everyone is not avoiding Mexico.
We felt safe the whole time. Went off resort a few times for various excursions. Did all the typical precautions and everything was fine.

We love Mexico and go almost every year. I now have 3 kids and hesitant. Rosewood mayakoba was probably our favorite family vacation ever albeit it was before we had the third child. Was considering grand Velas or occidental all inclusive right next to xcaret.
Would you just skip Mexico this year?
DH suggested a Disney Cruise.
