Exactly. In my case, I was trying to decide between two types of universities I thought I might like. UChicago appealed to the part of me that wanted more of a purely intellectual experience; Georgetown School of Foreign Service aligned with my career goals. I applied early to both, got into both, and ultimately chose Georgetown. It was a very personal decision that no one could generalize into cross-admit data trends.

Oh, and she's about to graduate with a PhD from Berkeley and will start a post-doc at Stanford in the fall. She's not even 30 years old.

The "battles" where someone ends up preferring UChicago. Sometimes it's a particular program or availability of a particular mentor, or someone wants to be close to certain family/friends and that tips it, or maybe someone has outside interests like American music (jazz, blues) to play or be involved with.

There are as many reasons as there are kids who make that choice.
