+1 for the notarized permission letters. Better safe than sorry. Also, if you can, scan all the documents to pdf and email them to yourselves so you have back-up copies if you need them.

If flying southwest and baby will be a lap child vs having own ticket you will definitely need birth certificate
They have a policy to ask for it- I was always asked even when flying with a baby who was obviously less than 1!

We always bring a copy of the birth certificate and my son's passport, but we have never been asked to show it. We've been on about 30 flights and my son is pretty big for a 16 month old, so some people might think he is 2 or older! Still never been asked, but glad we have it just in case.

I've only flown with my first child who has had a passport since 3 months old. We have no need at this point to get our infant one. How do we fly with her? Do we need to bring a birth certificate? Get some sort of id?
