My assessment: it doesn't necessarily look like a redemption from last year's results. I know some on this board had said this class would be different.

Glad to hear that there seem to be stronger results to STA and NCS this year as a majority of parents enter Beauvoir with that intention. (Not all, but definitely a majority.)

Generally speaking, moving to St. Pat's, NPS, Lowell, and Grace Episcopal are not usually the ideal trajectory simply because you have to apply once again in a few years. Mater Dei may be the desire for a Catholic education and/or closer to home. McLean is also a specialized school and Berkeley is an out-of-town move, so not reading into those.

It's the number of k-6, k-8 choices that is surprising. All schools are fine, but if you want that route, you typically start at one of those schools in the first place. Typically people don't go to BVR with the intention of then switching to a k-6 or k-8. Again, trying to be objective here. Not sure what of this, really.

This was the very first notification. I would be surprised if we did not get a full breakdown later on.

Last year, there was a breakdown on the number of students per school.

OK really nothing on this form is credible. I’m a Beauvoir parent and I know for a fact that kids got both into GDS and Muray. Choose to not believe that if you want.

Can go right into Gifted Centers for 4 & 5th grade in MCPS, then on to magnet middle school and high school.

A couple years ago, we were deciding between Blair, SFS, STA and GDS, and were coming from a K-8. So it's not impossible to be in private and get admitted to top public magnet programs.

Sounds like families are quite happy with the process and results this year, which is great.

Also, to the pp who spoke to public school outplacement, no where did Beauvoir state how many families chose the MoCo public schools. It seems like it's not your place to discuss this on a public forum unless you are that family. As a Beauvoir parent of a 3rd grader I'm surprised by this and disappointed.

On another note, I'm happy for all the 3rd graders. We are going to really miss this class.

Some families definitely plan to go invest in private in the early years. We are not in MCPS, but what I've heard from friends in that district currently, there can be huge class sizes, 1 teacher in the classroom, fear of not enough individualized attention, lots of use of Chromebooks, etc. Perhaps some of the reasons people went private for the early years and are now hoping that these are less impactful as their child moves towards middle and high school in an otherwise high performing public. Private all the way through is really, really expensive, so families do have to make decisions on the years they might public vs. private.

Beauvoir parent here: the family who is going public decided to apply to no schools at all and made the choice to go public willingly.

It’s not OP’s phrasing, but from the school’s e-mail. Some people invest in the early years and then are okay with their kids going to public school. There are also some families whose financial situation changes and they can’t afford $38,000 a year in tuition anymore. Finally, if a child is diagnosed with a learning disability, public schools give much better support to kids with IEPs and 504 plans than privates.

I saw that and wondered about why no one wanted to go to GDS or Maret. I doubt it’s a lack of acceptances, I know one child who is leaving Beauvoir for Maret in an earlier grade.

I think if you’re going to apply out, people are more likely to want to go to Sidwell. We are planning to look at GDS, too, but I think most Beauvoir families do lean toward staying in the Close.

Beauvoir outplacement results are out. Given all of the chatter about last year's results, I thought some might be interested in how the school made out this year:

As of March 2018, 100% of students have been placed.
90% of students applying to STA and NCS were accepted.
88% of students were accepted at their 1st choice school.
14 schools being attended including:
(1) NCS
(2) STA
(3) St. Pat's
(4) Sidwell
(5) Stone Ridge
(6) Montgomery County Public Schools
(7) NPS
(8) WES
(9) Grace Episcopal
(10) Holton
(11) Lowell
(12) Mater Dei
(13) McLean School
(14) Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley (CA)

The two noticeable missing schools are GDS and Maret...though the information does not reveal if any of the students applied to either and if they did, if they were accepted, rejected or WL. Whatever the case, make whatever you will from the results and whether it signifies a return to normalcy or an indication of concern of Beauvoir's typical/expected outplacement abilities/results.
