That's if you're on the east coast and if we're currently in day savings time. Of course the times would be different if you're on the west coast and depending on the season as well.

Thank you for sharing this secret!

2-3 pm for me. I am stronger and more limber then. It's not an option except on weekends though so usually I am grinding out a 530 am workout.

If weight loss is your goal, first thing in the morning, before breakfast is best (but after coffee is ok as long as you’re not using sugar or artificial sweeteners in coffee). Google ‘fasted cardio’. But if a.m. workout is too tough for you, then whenever you can fit it in is good. I personally cannot work out after work. I feel way too sluggish.

I will say one thing though, i work out with a trainer a couple of times/week at 6 am. I am STARVED the rest of the day on those days. When I work out on my own after work, i am not miserable for the rest of the day.

I felt that way about morning workouts too, and also, I dislike feeling pressured to get my run (or workout, but usually just run) done in a certain time frame. Even though it rarely happens, if I want to run more, or conversely, if I crash and burn and have to walk home, I don’t like being pressured to be done at a certain time. So, I much prefer the nighttime, after dinner. I sleep so soundly, too.

On my days off, I do go between 11 and 12 in the morning. This way I get to eat a peaceful breakfast, then claim I'm too tired to do anything and either go back to sleep or netflix, then after awhile I feel good enough from being lazy and unproductive that I totally don't mind taking a break from being lazy and unproductive to go to the gym. On the days I work (afternoons and evenings), I go on my way home assuming I've remembered to pack gym clothes. So it's usually between 8 and 9 in the evening.

For me, the best time is first thing in the morning. I used to work out at lunchtime, but then my job got busier and I couldn't reliably get away anymore. So now I wake at 5:00 and i'm at the gym by 5:45, home and in the shower by 7:00. On weekends I try to get the workout out of the way first thing, before life gets in the way. This works for me, but I had to start going to bed at 10:00, and that was really hard for me.

I also make it a priority in the sense that I'll jump through a lot of hoops to fit it in, regardless of my schedule or obstacles. If my daughter has an 8:30 soccer game, I'm out on the trail at 6:30. If I need to run between games or right before dinner, I adapt.

My preference is to work out in the morning before work. I feel great all day when I do that. I'm trying hard to get on a regular morning workout schedule.
My second favorite time is around 8-9 pm, when I'm done with everything that I have to do that day.

I woke out after my kids sleep and house is in order, 8:30-9:30 but it works for me. I hate waking up early

As for what's physically "optimal," again this depends on the former. Some feel best in the morning. Others feel best later in the day. Do what works for you, and do it consistently.

This. but I don't always think that correlates to what the best time for your body is. I workout in the morning around 5:30am because that time worse best for my schedule and it's a time when i have less excuses and am more likely to actually make it to the gym. however, if I had all the time in the world and didn't have a job my ideal time would be more like 9am. When I lift on the weekends my body is more warmed up, I've had some coffee and, thus, I have better lifts/feel stronger. I obviously can't do this every day though so second best option is when I can actually make it to the gym

6am

Get up, get it done, get on with the day.

Time of day matters very little for results.

I prefer first thing because of convenience - rarely do things get in the way, and I prefer cardio on an empty stomach. If I can't do first thing I try for late afternoon but that is mostly schedule-based. I'd never work out at night.

Im trying to decide when the best time of the day it is to work out.
I know many workout during lunch break, then some first thing in the morning before work and breakfast and some do afterwork work out before going home and dinner. Few workout later after dinner/kids in bed.

If I narrow down to gym workout, ie cardio elliptical/treadmill and also weights/strength. 45-60 each session.

I tried working out after very light dinner, maybe 2 hours before bed. Didn’t enjoy it. Felt too energized to sleep for some reason instead of beaten and tired.

And when exactly is the optimal time to work out to get the best result, ie muscels, weight control etc?

I’m a women late 30s by the way.

And sorry for typos!
