Please do not just show up to Sibley. They have made it clear that they are not prepared to deliver you. Georgetown is a wonderful hospital with excellent OBs and nurses. I would see if there is any chance you can get an appointment with Dr. Kelly (she sees patients at the main hospital as well as an office in Tenleytown)- she is so kind and will make you feel comfortable. She's also an excellent doctor.

Your ob is more about the prenatal side of things. Monitoring, testing, etc. who delivers you at the hospital is a roll of the dice. Could be your ob, but probably just the oncall ob, of which there are a dozen.

My understanding is that my MFM doesn't deliver, and the new Ob is her recommendation actually.

Why isn't your MFM delivering you? They're better equipped to deliver GD babies. They are usually trained to break the clavicle of the baby if it gets stuck due to GD and being too big. Your OB should have transferred your care.

OP here. Ob officially dropped me and is sending me to find a doctor through my MFM who's recommending a doctor that delivers at Shady Grove. I really don't want to go there....was there a particular doctor you liked at Foxhall? Thanks!

+1 He needs to make that referral for you. If he won't, try your MFM. You shouldn't just be left hanging.

I had GD and had to take a pill (elected for this rather than insulin). Foxhall never mentioned inducing me early and I was measuring ahead 2 weeks the whole time. They were wonderful. I delivered at Sibley.

Wow, that’s unbelievable. I found Georgetown to be better with GW and wohldntry to get in there now.

I would do that OP. If there is a risk to the baby, particularly a risk the baby might have to do ANY time in the NICU, you want to be at Georgetown. Otherwise they'll take the baby to GT and leave you at Sibley.

Call the GW OBs right now and see if you can get in with them for at least a handful of appointments prior to delivery. This sounds like a nightmare, and frankly a complete failure by your OB to have transfer protocols in place for situations such as this.

Call the hospital or your choice, explain and yes they will take you. I mean technically they have to take you if you show up in labor, but better to get the records transferred and all. Sorry. It’s a bummer to get kicked by your provider.

Just got the news that Ob (pretty well known on this forum) that he has not delivered many insulin dependent GD patients at Sibley, so he brought up the possibility of me going to either Georgetown or GW and just let any doctor on the floor deliver me there since they have more experience with GD patients. He said he does not deliver at any other hospital besides Sibley's. This is an absolute shocker. I'm 35 weeks and not sure if any other Ob will take me at this point.

Background on my GD: I've been seeing an MFM twice a week along with my Ob, at first it was hard to control with diet and exercise, so I've been put on bedtime insulin. Not a high dosage and numbers have been very good. MFM wants to see me make it to at least 39 weeks, however, the baby is pretty big at 99th percentile, so I think that's scaring my Ob because he keeps talking about a 37 week induction, but I'm hesitant because I'm worried about the baby's lungs being underdeveloped.

Anyone with similar experience, or had a great Ob that delivered a big GD baby with no problem? Any recommendations on what to do? Thanks!!
