Metro is not going to fix things despite what people want to believe. It is not very convenient for most people. And it is expensive.

Metro fixes what it has funding for and it could be great. MD DC VA were only willing to put some dedicated funding toward it recently when they started cooperating to lure Amazon here. Metro is a 30+ year old system and has to be maintained. So do roads.

If four lanes are added, the amount of property condemned will reduce property tax and they'll have to pay the owners off to get rid of them. I have seen no estimates about how much that will cost the taxpayer. It's very hard to get straight answers on the assumptions behind the cost estimates.

Exactly! I never take the metro because it always ends up taking longer and the fares add up. Not worth it.

Any future roads in the metro area should have tolls. People who complain about the cost of metro are about to understand just how much driving really costs.

People will still drive and it will be much nicer for drivers if we get more people on the Metro. People who can take transit should take it. What part of that are you not understanding?

I attended the open house. I can't call it a meeting. You signed in and then you could view their propaganda posters which were propped up on easels. The people from the MTA who were signing people in were not friendly in the slightest. Nobody asked me if I had any questions. Marc Korman was there. He's the state delegate for MD District 16 which is in Silver Spring. I don't know where he stands on this issue-I'm not in his district.

I think this scheme is a crazy idea because they will have to condemn so much property and because the noise from the Beltway will become so loud that we won't be able to escape it-not to mention the years of construction and the cost. The tolls roads in Virginia are so expensive. They have to be very high cost to pay for the construction. I don't have a problem with the idea of tolls, but I'm so pissed about these P3s. It's the governor and executive branch trying to gut our democracy by taking the legislative branch out of the equation. If no appropriation is involved, the executive branch can make these procurements much shorter. Shorter procurement sounds good until you realize there's not going to be any proper discussion of the project. PLUS- MD Transportation Secretary Pete Rahn is steering these contracts toward his old company and old colleagues. How much you want to bet he leaves and rejoins his old firm or another firm that gets a fat contract the second he can? I've committed myself to leaving this area if they go through with it. It will be such a reduction in our quality of life. I don't agree with building roads just so people can live further out. And the vendors would have guaranteed minimums so if people don't use the toll roads enough, taxpayers still have to ante up. I voted for Hogan but never again.

Yes, I'd much prefer to invest in transit even if it means construction. We cannot handle any more pollution and noise from these roads. P3s are not the miracle Hogan pretends. It's not free construction!

So is driving. People are driving crazy number of miles and hours to work - that’s a lot of lost productivity and leisure time. If people were so happy to be spending their time driving they wouldn’t be staring at their phones while doing it.

The metro is always PACKED at the Shady Hrove station so clearly it’s convenient for a lot of people.
