The point is that the paper does not have to staff today to cover HS sports.

They're too busy, you know, reporting on chemical weapons in Syria and in uncovering the extent to which the Russians have meddled in the elections.

The nerve of them to prioritize this instead of another national level match up between O'Connell #6 and James Madison #14 played in girls softball. Really they have gone downhill.

All Montgomery County local news, including high school sports, is below the Post's radar. The demise of the Gazette has made a big void in local coverage.

This has nothing to do with Washington Post being a national newspaper. They had comprehensive coverage of local high school sports while they were reporting on Watergate and Iran-Contra. It's purely a function of the decline of print media and the Post laying off most of the reporters who might have covered a game or at least made sure the scores were reported on time. Their Metro coverage is absolutely terrible now, too, as well.

They've even de-emphasized the All-Met coverage which used to be a special pull out section. The Post barely covers DC United, the Mystics or the Freedom.

The Washing5on Post is really more of a national paper than local paper, so it makes sense that high school sports are not really covered, especially minor sports.

Although there are pretty quick write ups of some high school sports in the local papers on-line editions in VA, MD, DC, the Washington Post always seems to be 4 days late and not particularly interested, unless it is a human interest story. The Washington Metro area not only has teams that contend for state championships, but are nationally ranked in the the Top 25 (USA Today, etc.). The "minor" and women's sports have the worst coverage. The Catholic and private schools get their due in football and basketball due to national level recruiting, but that isn't where high school athletics begins and ends.

I live in Virginia, but the are other examples from DC and MD...so last year Battlefield HS girls soccer was in the Top. The past Saturday another national level match up O'Connell #6 and James Madison #14 played in girls softball...The Washington Post...crickets...we'll see an article, ohhh...Tuesday when they do their weekly update.

We should be celebrating these kids throughout the season and The Post can't even write up big games in a timely manner.
