Yeah, I think a regular fig tree might be hard? I actually have one I was going to plant outside that's sprouted some leaves. I night just stick it in a pot .

Re: direct sunlight--yes coming through a window counts. But our two previous houses before this one had tons of very direct light. What we get now is very different, and the fig trees seem to appreciate it more--not tons if harsh light.

On the other hand, I had to get a grow light for the lemon tree and it's barely alive.

If they go outside they can be fertilized and will produce fruit.

A fiddle leaf fig tree and a fig tree are two separate plants.

It is a fiddle leaf fig. I had it inside for 2 years previously so I think it can't tolerate going inside to outside like the rest of my plants do. I'm not putting it outside this spring.

They're so finicky. I had my 3 year old fig out in it's pot on our front porch last year and it LOVED it. Grew pretty big, gave me about 7 figs to eat and all was going swell. Moved it inside and it dropped all of its leaves and went dormant all winter. it's still my baby though.

I got 2ft tree (actually I think it's two trees in one pot) from Home Depot in January and it's doing okay but wondering if it could be doing better. It has since grown 8 leaves but dropped a few too. I give about 4-5 cups of water in a well draining pot. It's sitting in front of an east facing window...I see a lot of people saying east is best and a lot of people saying south. DH and I argue about whether it's ok for the window filtered light to beam down on the leaves. Most of the advice I read is from bloggers who then go on to say their plants died or are almost dead....looking for tips from someone that actually has kept one of these things alive!
