It’s amazing that some parents here don’t want their 16 year olds to walk or take an Uber.

Police give warnings to children biking on the sidewalks here as it’s illegal and make them move to the road if they have a helmet. No helmet means they have to walk the bike home.

Drivers around us are way too distracted to allow my teen to ride in the road. If there’s no bike trail that he can use to get to his destination, he Ubers. He also walks with friends, but I’m not a fan of him walking too far alone as our neighborhood was designed with some of those walkway tunnels that just creep me out.

Oh, sorry I just saw in the OP that walking isn't safe. I would say mix of carpool/parent rides/uber.

Is there some kind of special needs issue or something else? Because saying a really big 16 year old boy can’t take an Uber less than two miles seems very overprotective otherwise.

Yea his height weight don’t matter necessarily. The point is he is bigger than most adults including me and his dad (in weight) lol.

Well then what else does your husband suggest? If your husband isn’t willing to change his own schedule around to drive your son, he needs to either allow Uber or make him walk. Or he can come up with another idea.

A 16 YO can take an Uber or walk.

My 16 year uses Uber from our NW home when we can’t drive him and public transportation won’t work. It’s on our app so we can see where he is. And he is 6ft 170lbs.

I would let him. It sounds like your husband is being too protective! My kid is also 16 and doesn't drive either but, I would let her go in an uber and she is only 5'3"!
