YES. Don’t even get me started. Definitely annoyed with this.

I'd go with the kids because then you've visited and won't have to go back for a while. I HATE staying at relatives houses with my kids that age unless they have 2 guest rooms for us.

This exactly. People who live 6 hours away aren't usually expected at showers.

It wasn’t a question of going. I am going, I want to go, I’m excited to go. Just trying to figure out how to get there.

I cannot drive myself and show up without my boys. I could fly: “oh, it’s just me flying up!” And then I don’t have to bring them. But if I drive, they might as well be with me.

I don’t quite understand this - it’s not like they’re invited to the bridal shower, right? - but okay. I’d fly then. By the time you factor in gas, etc. there won’t be much of a differential.

They would stay and visit with my parents and my mom would be delighted if they come (although she’s coming to us 2x in May anyway).

Is it rude to leave Saturday and not spend mother’s day with her?

Is mother's day important to you for some reason? I'd just celebrate that another weekend.

+1

But I would run the numbers to see what gas, tolls, wear & tear on the car, and the per-driving-hour toll on your sanity would cost as compared to $270.

I would skip the shower unless it’s for your sister.

I have a bridal shower in my hometown in May. Shower is the day before mother's day.

1. I could fly up by myself: leave Friday, fly home after the shower Saturday. I'll be home with my husband and sons on Sunday for mother's day. Leave the kids (age 2.5 and 15 months) with my husband. Will cost about $270 and that's a big expense for us.

2. We all drive to my hometown (6 hour drive). Cons are that we all sleep very poorly there, and driving 6 hours with my boys isn't really fun. We would celebrate mother's day there with my mom and us. Pros are that it won't cost $270.
