We're atheist, and I don't think I could send my kids to a religious middle or high school.

I did that for preschool for one of them, and it was a mistake.

St Jerome Institute is opening next year too. It is informally involved with St. Jerome Academy and was started by current St Jerome's families.

That sounds like a plan. I have preschoolers and still trying to decide what to do with them for next year.

We're zoned for one of the worst middle schools in the county. We looked into the CMIT lottery and private school. Where we lived we looked into Riverdale Baptist however decided upon a Home School Co'op.
When he's done with MS for HS we might go with RBS and Dematha on the private side and CH Flowers on the public side.

Friends Community School in Greenbelt is terrific but it is only K-8. It has good outplacement, including to the magnets like Eleanor Roosevelt in PG and Blair-Montgomery, in MoCo. Decent private high school outplacement too -mostly Catholics and a few independents.

Has anyone heard of Lanham Christian School before, i have seen this school through searching for private school options for middle and high school. I would love to hear anyone opinion if they have attended or have heard anything about there middle or high school program.

Not the OP but not all hard workers manage to pass the TAG testing and they are now firm with the 81% cut off on the OLSAT or other IQ test. I just had this happen with one of my kids. Straight A's, clearly gets the work quickly, above grade reading level but didn't pass the OLSAT. We had private testing done and they got high enough but just. They used to make accommodations but according to the head of the TAG office if they do not hit 81% they will no longer be considered for further testing.
But with all thinigs PGCPS, things may change by the time someone calls them again.

If you're children are heading into middle and high and the local schools are not an option, what about TAG and the speciality programs? Because if your kids are high achievers, they should be able to test into one of the county programs for gifted students.

In the same situation, Upper Marlboro parent.... Most privates in PG are ok for elementary school. For middle and high school, the good thing is alot of the buses from outside the area come to PG:

Bullis - K-12 (Bethesda)
Potomac - K-12 (McLean)
Dematha (All boys) high - Catholic - But many non-Catholics attend (Hyattsville)
Seton (All girls) high - Catholic (But many non Catholics attend) (Bladensburg)

Closer would be: Riverdale Baptist (Our kids go here but after 5th, we will probably transfer for them) PreK3-12, Grace Brethren in Clinton, PreK3 -12, Excellence in Upper Marlboro, Prek3-12 (I don't know much about this school), Holy Trinity Epsicopal (Lanham) Prek4 - 12. Just to name a few.



How do you like Riverdale Baptist?


It’s ok. Class sizes not big. It’s just after middle school, it becomes it or miss. Of the 4 or 5 parents I’m close with, they transferred their kids in 6th or 7th. Two went to Bullis, 1 went to a Catholic in DC and the other went to holton (all girls school in Bethesda). Just seems like after 5th, it turns into a public school feel
