Eating too much protein is bad for your kidneys

I think the standard is a 159 lb woman should eat 50 grams of protein. Most of us get way more than that. There is some danger to your kidneys, though it may be a bit overstated.

The real problem is when you replace nutrient-rich Foods with unnecessary and excessive protein.

If you are pregnant you need 85 g a day. You are not pregnant, so less is fine. Your number is too high.

That sounds like a TON Of protein for your weight. Don't do that to your kidneys.

I think it’s fine to go over - it will help ensure you don’t lose muscle. I’m not sure MFP is great for determining macros for people that lift weights. I would go by recommendations for people that lift weights. Typically it’s somewhere around 1.5 grams per pound of lean body mass (for example if you are 138 pounds with 28% body fat, your LBM is 99 pounds), so 150 grams of protein.

I’m sure people here will tell you you don’t need that much protein though, as there seems to be more focus on losing weight around here, with no consideration on maintaining muscle mass.

Currently trying to lose 10 lbs... 5’4” woman and MFP has set as my protein goal as 114 g per day. Even keeping my calories in check, I sail way past that. Is there harm in doing so?
