Ferry to Cape May? Maybe stay in Avalon but spend a day at the cheesy boardwalk a bit south of there (my kids love it).

St Michaels is kind of boring for kids. I’d do Assateugue over it but what about Deep Creek and rent place w/boat or someplace in Blue Ridge

I think OBX is a little far of a drive for us for a long weekend. We are in Howard County.

Meant where "in" MD, not "is".

We are looking to plan a long weekend in September (not Labor Day weekend) with our ES aged kids. Somewhere within a 4 hour drive of Maryland, as plane tickets are not in our budget for this trip. Looking to spend $1000-1500 on lodging and food for two nights.
We like outdoor activities, hiking, water, but the kids also like amusement parks and exploring new urban areas...so really we're open to doing anything.
