A few year ago now. I did a few cycles on clomid/metformin but it wasn’t working ideally for me and my RE switched me. Switched to femara , great response with follicles and far less mood swings. I got pregnant first cycle on it. Baby is fine! I am average weight and PCOS.

I did 4 IUIs, 3 on Femara and 1 on Clomid. I had horrible mood swings and migraines on Femara and nothing on Clomid, so I prefer Clomid. I got a healthy number of follicles all 4 times but no pregnancy.

anyone have recent experience with Femara? I'm on my 2nd round of clomid and have had horrible mood effects both times-- indescribably bad and scary. If this cycle doesn't work want to figure out my next step.

Re-opening this thread from 2009 because I am considering Femara. I have a history of preeclampsia that makes a twin pregnancy dangerous. Femara is supposed to have a lower risk of multiples than Clomid.

Anyone with recent experience to share? Why did you choose or not choose Femara versus Clomid?

I have a bad history of anxiety and depression.....I took clomid and had no related mood problems.....just some minor headaches and some abdominal discomfort around ovulation time

i have never tried femara, but it came up during a discussion i had with my RE at SG. she said that they do not recommend using femara because of that study and reports of birth defects.

I don't know anything about Femera, but with IUI you will (typically) be monitored, so you'll know how many follicles (and possible eggs) there are. If there are more than you are comfortable with, you can always cancel the IUI/timed intercourse. good luck!!!!

I do not know anything about Femara, but I have been on 3 cycles of Clomid and did not have any of the side effects you mention. The only side effect that I did have were hot flashes, which were annoying but not a big deal.

Anyone try Femara before, or instead of, Clomid? I"m really nervous about Clomid (trying to avoid multiples, if possible, concerned how I might respond to Clomid considering my history of depression, and concerned that Clomid will dry up what little cervical mucus I have). When I asked my RE about Femara, she basically described it as a weaker version of Clomid - i.e, the bad side effects will be less but so will the positive ones. She also mentioned needing to sign a waiver because of concern Femara can cause birth defects (although she then proceeded to discount the study that suggested this). So I'm confused and looking for any input from those who have tried it. Thanks in advance.
